PHOTO PROJECT

Describing a photo:

This is a photo of the World War I. I've chosen it because I think that it is really shocking to see pictures form the war. It is also very shocking to see people fighting, to see violence... And it is also unpleasant, of course. Below there is my description of the picture and all my thoughts about it:

In this picture, we can see some soldiers fighting during the World War I. In the foreground there are three armed soldiers. In the backround there's a tank, which is probably ready to attack and kill a lot of people. And this is something that makes me feel really sad. In the left part there's a tree, a very dry tree, because it hasn't got any leaves. Actually, it is probably dead. In the right part of the backround there are more soldiers and they are also armed. I think that there were a lot of soldiers that we can't see in this picture.
The environment is really sad because the only colours that we can see are the dark ones, such as grey or brown. I guess this environment was caused by the war. However, the weather doesn't seem to be really good as the sky is pretty dark too.
I think this photo was taken in a battlefield and I suppose the photographer had to risk his life to get this picture, which is a clear example of bravery.
To finish, I would like to say that I believe all the soldiers we can see here (and the ones we can't see too) were all really sad and looking forward to the end of the war.

Trip to Italy 2017

WRITING: My trip to Italy

Last week I went to Italy with all my classmates. It was a wonderful week and I'll never forget it. I had a really good time and I enjoyed every moment there.

We caught the plane in Barcelona on Monday and we arrived in Milano (Malpensa) in the morning. On the first day, we visited Sirmione, where we had lunch. We ate a pizza, a very big pizza! Then, in the afternoon, we went to Verona. We had dinner and we slept there.

On Tuesday, we visited Venice. It is a very beautiful city, but there is a lot of people. There are so many tourists that it is difficult even to walk through the city. To be honest, I didn't like this and I got stressed. Then we returned to Verona and we slept there too.

On Wednesday we went to Florence. It's a city with a lot of artistic buildings, so it's a very important city for the culture. Santa Maria del Fiore, which is the cathedral there, is very high and very impressive from the outside, but very disapointing from within. After visiting Florence, we had dinner and we slept there, in a different hotel from the first two nights.

On Thursday we continued visiting Florence. We went to the Academia Gallery and to the Ufizzi Gallery Museum. In the Ufizzi Gallery, we saw a lot of paintings. And in the Academia Gallery, we saw "The David", which impressed me a lot because of its size. It's very big! Then, we had dinner in the same restaurant and we slept in the same hotel than in the day before.

On the last day, on Friday, we visited Lucca and Pisa. In Lucca, I ate a typical food from there, which were like a triangular potatoes. They were really tasty. After visiting Lucca, we visited the tower of Pisa. Sincerely, it was really shocking to see a leaning tower. I liked it but I decided not going up.

Finally, once we had visited everything, we went to the airport by bus, we caught the plane and we arrived in Barcelona at 1.00 am. Then, we got a bus and we returned to the school, where our parents were waiting for us. Everything was fine and I was happy and sad at the same time: happy for getting back home and sad for finishing which had been a wonderful trip.

WRITING: A FORMAL EMAIL (SEQUENCING WORDS)

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to an article in yesterday's issue of your newspaper which claimed that train companies introduced free Wi-fi on all trains. I completely agree with the article because I would really like to have this service.

Firstly, most of the people uses Wi-fi so everybody would be happy about introducing it on all trains. Wi-fi allows us to do a lot of things so I think it would be a big improvement by the train companies if they introduce it on all trains.

Secondly, Wi-fi does not create pollution so I can't see the problem about introducing it on trains. Some of this kind of innovations are refused because they create pollution, but in this case they can not use this argument (because Wi-fi does not create pollution).

Therefore, Wi-fi helps people to do lots of things, even things from their work, so this innovation would be really helpful for everybody.
I also would like to point out that it would be very important to offer it free. I think everybody would be really disappointed if train companies made us pay for the Wi-fi on trains.

Kind regards,

Isaac.

THE BEST HOLIDAYS I HAVE EVER BEEN ON.

The best holidays I've ever been on were in 2014. I went on a cruciere with all my family.

It was on July and I had been really looking forward to it the weeks before. We spent a whole week in a big and beautiful cruciere. We visited some cities in Italy, Greece and Croatia. All the food we ate was tasty and delicious. I also played a ping-pong tournament.

As a conclusion, we all had a great time. I would love to repeat it one day, and I'm sure my family would do it too.

Hi auntie,

How are you? I hope you're very well. I'm writing to tell you about my new friend.
He's a boy and I met him at school. His name is Jack and he's from Scotland. He came here two weeks ago. He's tall and really friendly. He has brown hair and black eyes. He loves playing computer games and he also likes playing football. He hates skateboarding. He also told me he has a dog.

Lots of love,
Isaac

2. It's Monday morning. You are in the English class. Your teacher has asked you to write a paragraph about the weekend. Explain what time you got up, where you went, the people you went with, what you did, how you felt, what you ate, what time you went to bed, etc.

Last weekend I got up at 11 a.m. In the morning, I went to walk around the lake with my family and with my dog. We had a good time and I felt really happy. Then we had lunch at a restaurant near there. The food was delicious! Finally, I went to bed at 2 a.m.

TAKING UP GYM!

FRIDAY
I've just taken up going to the gym. It's incredible, but I've been feeling unfit these last weeks so I explained this to my mother She suggested that I started a new activity, such as running or going to the gym. At first, I thought it was ridicolous, but then I realised she was right. So I decided to try going to the gym. The first lesson is tomorrow.

SATURDAY
I survived my first lesson. In fact, it was really cool. I enjoyed every minute there and now I feel fitter. I really made good decision by deciding to go there. I also met nice people there. They were really friendly and they showed me how it worked every machine.

SUNDAY

It's the day after my first lesson. My legs and my arms hurt a bit. Anyway, I have more neergy and I feel better now. Even I'm just happier and I'm looking forward to the second session at the gym!

THE SURPRISE

It was George's 15th birthday and he didn't expect that we had prepared what we had prepared. We were the best George's three friends and we really wanted to have a spceial day together in George's birthday.

Our plan was meeting him at his house and we had just told him that we only wanted to have dinner with him. But then, when we arrived, we had planned to congratulate him and tell him that we were going to go to the bowling all together. But we had one problem: George had already prepared the dinner.

Finally, we decided to have dinner at his house without telling him anything about our surprise. Once we had finished having dinner, we told him that we wanted to invite him to the bowling. He was really happy! He had fun and we had an unforgettable night!

A FOR AND AGAINST ESSAY

ARE COMPUTER GAMES GOOD?

There are lots of videogames actually. Lots of people over the world have a PS4, an Xbox or a computer at home to play video games. However, are they good for you? Is it helathy to play computer games for a long time?

Playing computer games has some big advantatges, such as you can have fun for some time. When you are bored at home you can play video games a a good alternative to getting bored. You can also play online computer games, so you can connect with your friends whenever you want, and talk with them while you are playing.

Otherwise, it has some disatvantatges. Playing computer games may avoid you to do other healhier activities, such as practising any sport. It also could be very bad for your eyes if you play for a lot of hours.

As a conclusion, video games are good if you play them with moderation, which means that you can't play for a lot of hours. And they mustn't avoid you from doing other things.

WRITING LEARN ENGLISH TEENS

Dear Sabrina,

Thanks for your letter. I'm really happy to hear from you . You asked me about my favourite day. Well, it's definitely Saturday.
The main reason I love Saturday is that there's no school I like it because. I can get up whenever I want and do whatever I like. I usually spend most of the day playing computer games and watching football macthes on TV.
I also like Saturday because I can go to bed when I want and because there's no school on the following day (Sunday).
On Saturdays, I usually do homework, which is the thing I hate the most.
As a conclusion, Saturday is the most relaxing day of the week and it's when I enjoy what I do the most.

Love,

Isaac

He was lucky because the weather was really good. It was sunny all days. He went to the beach, and he loved it. However, he didn't like the flats and the houses he saw there.

My favourite relative

I think you can decide your best friend, but I think it's impossible to choose a favourite relative, at least for me. But if I had to talk about a relative I love so much, it would be my mother. She is really nice and lovely as a person, and very responsible as a mother. One of the things I like the most about her is that she cares about every detail as a mother, even those little ones. And she is able to know how I feel just by asking me a pair of questions.
I like every second of my life I've spent with her, but I couldn't choose one specific moment.
As a conclusion, I really love my mum and I'm really pleased about everything she's done for me.

DIALOGUE

- Hi George!

- Oh! Hi Mark!

- What do you think I should you if I want to go to bed earlier every day.

- Well, my advice would be to try to finish your homework before having dinner.

- But I don’t have enough time in the afternoon.

- Make sure you don’t waste any time. Do you do it?

- Well, I’m not sure at all.

- If I were you, I’d do all my homework as soon as I arrived at home.

- But, you know, I’m really tired when I arrive at home after school.

- And have you thought about getting up earlier and do your homework in the morning?

- Oh! I hadn’t thought about that! Would you suggest me not to do my homework in the afternoon?

- Yes, it would be something like this. Just do all of the in the morning.

- Ok, thanks!

- You’re welcome!

- Bye George!

- Bye Mark! See you.

WRITING: A FORMAL LETTER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writting this letter to complain about the Justin Bieber's concert I went last night and I think that all the songs were really boring and they were even similar. I expected to have a good time at the concert, but, to be honest, I did not.

Although I think I have mentioned enough reasons to show you it was a bad concert, the main reason that makes me think it was a boring concert is not about the quality of the songs. The worst thing is that he stopped singing after every song to smoke. I can not believe it! That is absolutely unacceptable!

I also did not like the environment. I just did not like the kind of people there. However, that is not Justin's problem so I am not going to talk about it.

I will claim a full refund to you because I want to get the money back. I hope you do not have any problem about it.

Yours faithfully,

Isaac

WRITING: AN INFORMAL EMAIL

Hi Lluís,

How are you? Do you still go skiing in winter? Have you ever tried another snow sport? Thanks for your email, but sorry for my delay. I've been really busy these days.

Guess what! I've done an incredible trip this summer! I've been to Andorra. It's really beautiful! It has lots of mountains and really wonderful lakes, although the water was very cold. The houses are also pretty nice.

My other news are about a rollercoaster I went which was amazing. Its name was "Tobotronc" and it was in a park called "Naturlandia". It was cool because it went very fast. I loved it!

Anyway, I really recommend you to go there and try this rollercoaster. And I'm sure you'll think that Andorra is really wonderful. What have you done during this summer? How have you spent your time? Have you visited another country?

See you soon,

Isaac

WRITING: WRITE AN ESSAY ABOUT A TOPIC

Topic: the use of electric bicycles and mopeds

It is well-known that nowdays there are lots of electric bicycles and mopeds for sale. In other words these bicycles and mopeds that are powered by electricity. But are they a good choice? Which advantatges and disatvantatges do they have?

They have some advantatges such as they contribute to save the environment as they don't pollute. Moreover, hey don't make any noise and they don't consume a nonrenewable power source such as petrol.

However, they have some disadvantages. They work with a battery that doesn't last for a long time so you can't do many kilometres without charging the battery. And they are also very expensive so you have to save a lot of money to afford an electric bicycle or moped.

To sum up, I think the electric bicycles and mopeds are our future and in a few years everybody will have one because they will be really reliable. Buying an electric bicycle or moped will be worth it. I also think they will be cheaper in the future. Furthermore, I think there will also be electric cars used by everybody.

Dear Ms Matthews,

I am writing in response to the advert for part-time Saturday animal care assistants which appeared in the Nottinghamshire Echo on 10th November. I would be very grateful if you would consider my application and I enclose my CV.

I have considerable experience of looking after animals. In addition to having two dogs, I have spent two summers working on my uncle's farm in Devon. I also did work experience at a veterinary clinic for a week in April, which was an invaluable opportunity to learn more about small animals.

I believe I have the right personal qualities for this position. I would describe myself as hard-working and dependable, and I am passionate about animals and it would be highly satisfying to help injured and abandoned animals. As I want to study veterinary science at university, I hope to gain extremely useful experience at the same time.

I am available immediately and would be happy to attend an interview. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
Victoria White

Guess what! I've got some great news! My parents have agreed to let me go to the Reading Festival next summer! They're going to give me half ot the money for the ticket for my birthday. To earn the other hald, I have to help out with odd jobs at home – tidying up the garage, looking after my little sister, that kind of stuff. Have you spoken to your parents about it yet? Why don't you suggest doing the same thing?

My other news is that my band is playing at the end-of-term party! We're only going to be on stage for ten minutes or so, but I think it'll be awesome. It's also a good way to promote our music, so we're really pleased.

Writing
'Should university education be free? Discuss.

It is clear that society needs doctors, teachers and other people with university degrees. Neverthless, higher education is expensive and some people believe the government should pay for it. There are arguments for and against this idea.

One of the arguments for free university education is that university courses can be very expensive. For instance training as a doctor can be very expensive. For instance, training as a doctor can cost thoussands of pounds. Unless students come from wealthy families, they may not be able to afford it. Furthermore, it is claimed that if local universities cost too much, students will go abroad to study and might not return. Consequently, the country will lose valuable skills and the economy will suffer.

There are also arguments against the idea. For example, some people in society are very wealthy and they can easily afford fees. People also say there are too many unemployed graduates and that the government should encourage more young people to consider vocational careers.

On balance, I do not think university should be free for everyone because others in society need the money more. However, the government should support poorer students so everyone has access to education.
Give a general introduction to the topic
Use linkers of contrast, addition, reason and result
Separate arguments for and against into two separate paragraphs
Include examples to support your arguments
Give your own opinion at the end, giving a reason and perhaps a suggestion
Use modals to take suggestions and recommendations.
