HIGHLAND GAMES

Highland games are held in Scotland in summer. It's a sport tradition. Events include throwing heavy metal objects and even tree trunks, but there are also races, Scottish Highland dancing competitions and the "tug-of-war". You need to be fit and very strong to win!

NATIONAL HAMBURGER MONTH

Americans celebrate their favourite sandwich for an entire month. On average, every single person in the USA eats three burgers a week, that's nearly 50 billion hamburgers every year. That's a lot of burgers!

2017 AMERICA'S CUP

This is the most famous sailing event in the world. It is organized every four years, and this year it is in Bermuda. Pairs of boats race each other, competing for speed, strategy and tactics. It's one of the most difficult sporting trophies to win!

MAYPOLE DANCING IN MAY!

This pagan tradition began in villages in England and Wales in 1350, but in the 1700s the Church banned maypoles. Today, the tradition is celebrated on 1 May. Dancers hold coloured ribbons as they dance around a tree trunk (the maypole). Today, it's not a pagan festival, but it's good fun!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The Guardians continue their adventures in the galaxy! They are joined by the old enemies, who become new allies, and other characters from the Marvel Universe, including Taserface, Mantis, Nebula and Yondu. The team discover the truth about Peter Quill's parents and must flight to stay united. And, as before, great rock songs accompany the action. Fans will be dancing in the cinema.

PHOTO PROJECT

Describing a photo:

This is a photo of the World War I. I've chosen it because I think that it is really shocking to see pictures form the war. It is also very shocking to see people fighting, to see violence... And it is also unpleasant, of course. Below there is my description of the picture and all my thoughts about it:

In this picture, we can see some soldiers fighting during the World War I. In the foreground there are three armed soldiers. In the backround there's a tank, which is probably ready to attack and kill a lot of people. And this is something that makes me feel really sad. In the left part there's a tree, a very dry tree, because it hasn't got any leaves. Actually, it is probably dead. In the right part of the backround there are more soldiers and they are also armed. I think that there were a lot of soldiers that we can't see in this picture.
The environment is really sad because the only colours that we can see are the dark ones, such as grey or brown. I guess this environment was caused by the war. However, the weather doesn't seem to be really good as the sky is pretty dark too.
I think this photo was taken in a battlefield and I suppose the photographer had to risk his life to get this picture, which is a clear example of bravery.
To finish, I would like to say that I believe all the soldiers we can see here (and the ones we can't see too) were all really sad and looking forward to the end of the war.

Trip to Italy 2017

WRITING: My trip to Italy

Last week I went to Italy with all my classmates. It was a wonderful week and I'll never forget it. I had a really good time and I enjoyed every moment there.

We caught the plane in Barcelona on Monday and we arrived in Milano (Malpensa) in the morning. On the first day, we visited Sirmione, where we had lunch. We ate a pizza, a very big pizza! Then, in the afternoon, we went to Verona. We had dinner and we slept there.

On Tuesday, we visited Venice. It is a very beautiful city, but there is a lot of people. There are so many tourists that it is difficult even to walk through the city. To be honest, I didn't like this and I got stressed. Then we returned to Verona and we slept there too.

On Wednesday we went to Florence. It's a city with a lot of artistic buildings, so it's a very important city for the culture. Santa Maria del Fiore, which is the cathedral there, is very high and very impressive from the outside, but very disapointing from within. After visiting Florence, we had dinner and we slept there, in a different hotel from the first two nights.

On Thursday we continued visiting Florence. We went to the Academia Gallery and to the Ufizzi Gallery Museum. In the Ufizzi Gallery, we saw a lot of paintings. And in the Academia Gallery, we saw "The David", which impressed me a lot because of its size. It's very big! Then, we had dinner in the same restaurant and we slept in the same hotel than in the day before.

On the last day, on Friday, we visited Lucca and Pisa. In Lucca, I ate a typical food from there, which were like a triangular potatoes. They were really tasty. After visiting Lucca, we visited the tower of Pisa. Sincerely, it was really shocking to see a leaning tower. I liked it but I decided not going up.

Finally, once we had visited everything, we went to the airport by bus, we caught the plane and we arrived in Barcelona at 1.00 am. Then, we got a bus and we returned to the school, where our parents were waiting for us. Everything was fine and I was happy and sad at the same time: happy for getting back home and sad for finishing which had been a wonderful trip.
